One virtue which is most essential when we are at Mass is the virtue of Faith and a good way to get our Faith turned on and in working order is to hear the Word of God. At Mass we need the sort of Faith Mary needed to believe the angel’s message about her becoming the mother of the Son of God. lt has been revealed to us, as we were reminded in the reading at the last Senatus meeting "The Mass is not a mere symbolic representation ofthe past, but places really and actually present in our midst that supreme action which Our Lord consummated on Calvary, and which redeemed the World." It is also
revealed that when we are at Mass we are already united with the Liturgy ofthe heavenly Court and having a real foretaste of Eternal Life, that the Heavenly Court assembles for every Mass. If Elizabeth were allowed to speak to us she would most likely welcome us in the words with which she welcomed Mary at the Visitation. " Blessed are you who believe what the Church teaches about the Mass."
The Holy Father in his letter proclaiming the current year ofthe Priest, marking the 150th. Anniversary of the death of St. John Vianney, mentions the fact that it occurred in the year after the apparitions of Our Lady to St. Bernadette at Lourdes. He quotes St. John Vianney’s saying, “If a priest could fathom the fullness of what it means to be a priest, he would die, not of fear, but of love. If we could comprehend in its fullness the meaning of those profound truths we believe about the Mass,our love for Our Lord would be so intense that it would cause our death.
