Fr. Spillane's Allocutio
![]() |
There is much division in society and a risk that his may happen in he Legion.Spiritual Director |
We must put up with the short comings of others as they have to put up with ours. We must realise that we are
not automatica|ly attracted to every other Iegionary. In some cases there can be an automatic antipathy between two good people. That happened to St. Therese in her own CarmeliTe
community: No—one was aware of it in The community — The other sister even thought Saint Therese liked her.
I give you a principle To follow: Never say This person bothers me, but this person sanctifies me.
The handbook advises that self suppression is the basis of all work in common. That means that members should moderate their own understanding and adapt themselves most completely to the system. Therefore there is no reason for "control freaks".
Another thing to watch out for would be petty jealousies that arise when members see themselves displaced by others. The remedy recommended is to see Our Lord in the person we have to deal with, whether in the Legion or not.
Another occasion when relations between members might deteriorate is when there is disagreement upon having to make decisions. All have to learn to make decisions based on middle ground.
It was said of the early Christians:
"Look how these Christians love one another". We hope that others will say of The Legion: "Look how these Legionaries love one another.
