Feast Day Oct. 7th

The Rosary has has been attributed to a Marian apparition to Saint Dominic in 1208 in the church of Prouille.

Initially called Our Lady of Victory instituted by Pope Pius V in 1571 in rememberance of the defeat of the Muslim Navy by The Holy League, this Feast Day was renamed by by Pope Gregory X||| to "The Feast Day Of The Rosary". The name of the feast day was later changed by Pope Paul VI to "Our Lady Of The Rosary".

Battle of Lepanto (1571)

The defeat of the Ottomans Muslim Turks by the combined forces of Spain was considered to be Gods devine Will not to allow Europe to be over-run. The Christian Fleet was out gunned and out manned so the men knelt in prayer and invoked the intercession of their Heavenly Mother.  Pope Pius V asked the Christian world to pray the Rosary for the success of this crusade.  This astounding victory is attributed to Mary's intercession. This miraculous Christian victory at Lepanto is now widely regarded as a decisive moment in the history of Western Civilization.

Our Lady of the Rosary is now a mandatory memorial. The reference to victory or Our Lady of Victory was maintained in titles and for sanctuaries the world over, in particular in Spain, Italy, France and Germany. The title frequently commemorates, even before Lepanto, the victory over heresy and paganism.

"Truly, never was it known that anyone who fled to her protection, implored her assistance or sought her intercession was left unaided."
